The second semi-annual survey, conducted by PhilanTech and GrantStation, provides a snapshot of the state of grantseeking. The 867 respondents ranged from volunteer-run grassroots organizations to large national nonprofits.
The economy continues to show some signs of recovery, and the state of grantseeking in the U.S. is starting to stabilize:
- Grantseeking and related activities are on the rise, though not increasing enough to return to prerecession levels;
- Mid-sized organizations rely the most on grant awards as a steady source of revenue. Over a third of organizations with budgets between $250,000 and $5 million reported that grants comprised over 50% of their funding;
- The largest grants were from government sources; more grants were from foundations.
